Two Sides of the Same Coin

LPKF offers two processes for the professional surface finish of printed circuit boards: Solder resist with LPKF ProMask and assembly printing with LPKF ProLegend.

Solder mask and legend printing for in-house prototyping

The solder resist is - especially with SMT components - a basic requirement for safe soldering. With LPKF ProMask, a professional solder resist mask can be quickly and effectively applied to already structured circuit boards.

The solder resist mask is printed from the CAD program onto a transparent foil, transferred to the printed circuit board and developed. In just four steps, the structured circuit board is given a perfect surface finish in just a few minutes for soldering without short circuits.

The legend printing follows the same principle: ProMask and ProLegend are supplied with all necessary tools and consumables for a perfect result.

 

LPKF ProMask and LPKF ProLegend are essential for fast, simple and cost-effective PCB prototyping or small series production. A photographic exposure process transfers all structures or lettering exactly to the printed circuit board.

LPKF ProMask and ProLegend in four easy steps:

1. print photo template

With LPKF CircuitPro and a standard laser printer, you can create a photo template with the desired layout on a transparent film.

2. apply the lacquer

Mix the solder resist from the pre-portioned lacquer and hardener. Apply the solder resist onto the structured circuit board using the enclosed roller. The PCB is then pre-dried in a hot-air oven for 10 minutes.

3. expose the photo template

Position the template on the printed circuit board and place both in the exposer. Activate the exposure unit for 30 seconds. Remove the circuit board and remove the template.

4. develope and cure the solder resist mask

Mix the developer bath with the developer powder and hot water. Dissolve the unexposed solder resist in the developer bath using a brush. The solder resist is then hardened and cleaned in a hot-air oven for 30 minutes. Finally, a pH conditioner in powder form neutralizes all chemical components for environmentally friendly disposal.

 Accessories & Options


The performance of LPKF circuit board plotters and other LPKF systems can be enhanced with accessories and options. High-quality materials and precise workmanship ensure high reliability and durability for all expansions. The accessories can be retrofitted quickly and easily in self-assembly.
Convection oven

With its integrated timer and precise temperature control, the convection oven offers optimum conditions for curing conductive paste for through-holes and laminating solder resist films.

SMT / Finishing: Products and systems at a glance

The LPKF ProtoPrint S/-RP tabletop systems are manual SMD fine-pitch stencil printer for precise application of solder paste to circuit boards.

The LPKF ProtoPlace S places the components on the solder paste pads. The system pneumatically lowers the components and places them precisely.

The LPKF reflow oven is used for SMD soldering, also with lead-free, RoHS-compliant solder. The system also cures the ProConduct through-hole plating paste.

The ProtoFlow E is the entry-level model for reflow soldering.

With LPKF ProMask, printed circuit boards can be quickly and easily equipped with solder resist masks. The LPKF ProLegend assembly print identifies the position of the components on the printed circuit board and can be used for any labeling. Both processes are based on manual lacquer application.
