From Laser Pioneer to Solar Scribing Specialist
LPKF entered the thin-film photovoltaic market in 2006, when the first inquiries from solar module manufacturers reached the company. Process development began immediately. By the end of 2006, the first order had been placed. By summer 2007, the first laser scribing systems were delivered, and LPKF was established as a dedicated subsidiary in Suhl, Germany.
Since then, LPKF has designed, built, and commissioned more than 250 laser scribing systems in thin-film photovoltaic manufacturing facilities worldwide, across CdTe, CIGS, Perovskite, and OPV production lines. These systems operate in production fabs on three continents, running around the clock at 97%+ system availability.
Experience That Transfers to Perovskite
Nearly 20 years of thin-film production experience have directly shaped how LPKF approaches perovskite laser scribing. The process challenges, precise monolithic interconnection of sensitive layer stacks across P1, P2, and P3 scribing steps, are not fundamentally new. What changes with perovskite is the material sensitivity and the precision requirements at each step.
Our laser scribing systems are already qualified for perovskite module production. Systems are in the field and running in active production environments today. Whether at pilot line scale or in high-volume manufacturing, LPKF offers configurations for both.
