General
The LPKF ProtoMat S62 introduces a new era of state-of-the-art circuit board plotters for in-house rapid PCB prototyping. This compact high-speed system provides superior performance for quickly and easily manufacturing circuit board prototypes in a single day. It is an advanced and very affordable PCB plotter that includes features usually found only on much more expensive systems.
The LPKF ProtoMat S62 delivers unmatched precision with system resolution as fine as 0.25 µm (0.01 mils). As a result, the plotter can mill and drill PCBs with extremely fine traces, including RF and microwave boards. Its milling head travel speed of 150 mm (6”) per second and high-performance 62,000 RPM spindle motor makes it a premiere high-speed performer for producing quality PCBs in-house. Its motorized Z-axis drive also makes it an ideal tool for machining instrument front panels and housings, and for reworking and depanelizing bare and populated boards.
Whether the project is a two-sided board or a multilayer board, or it involves machining three-dimensional objects like front panels, the S-Series plotters are indispensable prototyping tools that deliver a finished product of the highest quality.
Setup and operation of the S-Series plotters is intuitive and easy to learn, thanks to their advanced and convenient design, comprehensive documentation and intelligent board production CAM software.
Features
Rich features and simple, automatic operation makes the LPKF ProtoMat S62 easy to use. No external compressed air is needed, so just plug it in and you’ll be completing your boards in minutes. A standard USB cable easily connects the plotter to a computer.
Automatic tool change
A 10-position tool changer automatically replaces milling and drilling tools while the board is being produced, so manual setup time is minimized and the plotter can be operated unattended.
Integrated head lighting
Shadow-free illumination of the milling area from integrated head lighting makes direct quality control faster and easier.
Silence and security
An integrated acoustic cabinet reduces system sounds and acts as a protective cover, so the plotter can safely operate in any work environment.
Three-dimensional operation
With its unique motorized Z-axis drive, the LPKF ProtoMat S62 is ideal for machining instrument front panels and housings, as well as pockets in microwave boards. It can also mill around mounted PCB components, simplifying board rework and depanelization jobs.
CAM software included
Each plotter comes with comprehensive LPKF CircuitCAM and BoardMaster software for importing PCB data from any CAD package and for controlling the operation of the plotter. This easy-to-use software is developed by LPKF, and it processes the same data that would be sent to a PCB manufacturer.
Optional equipment
An integrated vacuum table top holds thin and flexible board material firmly in place and maintains perfect flatness during the milling process.
Fiducial recognition camera
A fiducial recognition camera system automates front-to-back and multilayer alignment by locating fiducials embedded in the board layers. The PCB can be remounted or flipped and it will always be properly aligned. The system also automatically inspects the status of the milling bits.
Application
Mixed-signal boards
The superior milling speed and accuracy of the LPKF ProtoMat S62 makes it easy to produce a wide range of mixed-signal PCBs in-house. Multilayer boards can also be produced in-house in a single day when the S62 is combined with a through-hole plating system and a multilayer press.
RF and microwave boards
Circuit boards for sensitive RF and microwave applications can be precisely cut to preserve the design’s performance characteristics.
Front panels, housings and pockets
The unique motorized Z-axis of the LPKF ProtoMat S62 makes it a capable tool for machining three-dimensional objects like instrument front panels and device housings. It can also precisely machine component mounting pockets in microwave boards.
Board rework and depanelization
Its motorized Z-axis also gives the LPKF ProtoMat S62 the ability to rework and depanelize both populated and bare PCBs. With its Z-axis mobility, the milling head can precisely move over and around any mounted components.
