LPKF ProtoPaint LDS Makes Plastic Components LDS-Compatible

The LPKF ProtoPaint LDS painting system will add a coat to virtually any plastic surface that can then be laser activated. This paint is currently available as a dual-component version with primer and curing agent.

Combined with modern, generative 3D manufacturing methods, the LPKF ProtoPaint LDS significantly expedites prototyping of MIDs of mechatronic components. An approx. 30 – 40 μm layer is painted onto the material blank for laser structuring and then cured.

In practice, two or three subsequent coats are ideal for achieving sufficient thickness and a uniform coat. For larger pieces, it’s also possible to apply the coat to only one area at a time.
