LPKF ProtoPlace - A semi-automatic placing system for professional SMD assembly of prototype PCBs and small production batches

Kranj, Slovenia, November 2003 – This autumn LPKF Laser & Elektronika d.o.o. introduces a new generation of placers for professional use in the field of SMT (surface mounted technology) assembling. The newly introduced basic unit LPKF ProtoPlace supports multifunctional dispensing and placement of components of the highest complexity currently available on the market.

The Pick & Place system LPKF ProtoPlace is designed in accordance with the principles underlying ergonomic requirements and high technical standards. Owing to its newly designed electronics, fine-adjustable settings and automatic placement system, the basic model itself offers accurate and versatile applications. It allows the placing of fine-pitch components, for example QFP with 0.5mm and 0.4mm (16mil) pitch with up to 300 pins, as well as 0402 components.

Motorized turntable drive accelerates the picking of components from the turntable. It is also possible to select components from exchangable feeders.

The controlling of various processes is ensured by means of an LCD screen, and a multifunctional key offers control over the process from a single spot. A fine-adjustable table with the possibility of locking the manipulator in x and y directions is provided for the purpose of placing complex components.

The most precise components can be placed automatically by locking the z axis and pneumatically placing, thus eliminating human errors.

Ergonomic design with its single-spot control over all processes enables the best process results, and at the same time provides the operator with better working conditions. 

Semiautomatic placer LPKF ProtoPlace is a new product of an upgraded Rapid PCB Prototyping line that gives developers a faster, directer and more reliable way to new products.
