Erlangen, July, 27th 2007 – The automotive supplier SL Corporation from South Korea is welding automotive taillights with laser welding systems from LPKF Laser & Electronics AG for the first time. This project uses hybrid laser from LPKF for plastics welding. The technology combines laser light with infrared radiation and is very effective and economic for welding of large plastic parts. SL Corporation supplies well known automotive manufacturers in Korea. The company has carried out serveral tests with conventional welding procedures for the welding of their taillights in the last months. As a result hybrid welding was best in terms of appearance and strength of the joint lines at the highest throughput.
The Plastics Welding Division is a fast growing section of the LPKF group. In 2006 the turnover with laser welding systems was increased by 120%. The technology of laser plastics welding is being used more and more by the automotive industry all over the world.
